Our Group

The history of Bongrain Group dates back to 1920, when a cheese-making factory was established in Illoud, France. This is where Jean Noel Bongrain, the founder of the group, accumulated his first work experience.

1956 saw the arrival of Caprice des Dieux, one of the Group’s flagship products. This was an innovative idea: it was the first cheese ever made and sold under its own brand name.

New products from the group, which subsequently gained wide popularity, were launched in subsequent years: Tartare, Chaumes, Chavroux and Saint Agur.

Since 1969 the Group’s business stepped outside France, starting from Belgium, Austria, Switzerland and the United States, followed by the Eastern European countries in the 1990s. In the next decades the Group’s business continued to expand into new continents: Latin America and Asia.

In 1980 our Company was first listed on the stock exchange. In 1992 it became a partner of the Normandy Dairy Union (L'Union laitière normande) and joined the European Dairy Association.

The BONGRAIN Group came to Poland in 1993, starting Tartare production in the town of Skierniewice.
The Polish business went into a truly high gear in 1998 when the Group purchased a plant in Głubczyce. Turek and Pasłęk joined the BONGRAIN family in Poland afterwards.

Today, the BONGRAIN Group in Poland operates 3 plants and a distribution network, employing nearly 1,000 people.
And, last but not least, the Group is the market leader in mould cheese sales in Poland and a recognised exporter.
